The 24-Hour Jar & Seal Safety Check
Pantry Prep 101: Never lose a batch to bad glass. 🫙🔍
Before we dive into tomorrow’s class on mineral salt curing and brining, complete this 60-second jar inspection. Microscopic rim fractures ruin more preserves than bad salt ratios.
The 3-Point Mason & Crock Check:
The Rim Glide: Run a clean finger along the sealing bead. Even a hairline nick prevents an airtight seal and lets mold spores enter.
The Gasket Rebound: When using rubber rings or wire-bail jars, confirm rubber is supple. If it doesn’t snap back when flexed, discard it.
The Thermal Temper: Never dump hot liquids into cold jars. Always warm room-temp glass with warm tap water first to avoid thermal fractures.

Kitchen Exercise: Pull out 3–4 clean jars tonight, inspect the rims, and set them aside clean and dry. Class 105 goes live tomorrow morning at 7 AM!

Running that quick finger along the rim has saved more jars than we can count. A lot of folks focus entirely on recipes, but clean glass and dependable seals do all the heavy lifting once storage starts. Who else is pulling jars tonight to get ready for tomorrow?
