A Sabbath for the Hearth

No class today. The cast iron is cooling on the stove, the bread can wait until tomorrow, and the farm is quiet in the way only a Sunday morning can be. Rest is not the absence of work. It is the other half of it. The soil rests between plantings. The sourdough rests between folds. The cook rests so the hands remember why they cook: not for the rush, but for the people gathered around the table. Today, let something simmer slowly. Sit a little longer over coffee. Read the recipe you have been saving. Call the person who taught you to cook, and thank them. We will be back tomorrow with the science of fall sourdough. Until then, rest well, friends.
